Political reform for the spiritual recovery of the Japanese (1)
This essay was written in July 2005 originally in the Japanese language.
Political reform for the spiritual recovery of the Japanese should be done urgently. Japan is in crisis now. Professor Terumasa Nakanishi of Kyoto University points out the four problems in his book " History of civilization of the people".
1. Decreasing Population.
The birth rate has dropped seriously.
2. Financial collapse. Japan's finances are out of control.
3. The weakening of politics
No national intention has been put into practice and it has continued to drift for more than 10 years. Not to mention fiscal reform, a "political collapse" is underway, in which even the intentions of political parties cannot be unified.
4. The decline of morals and education is progressing rapidly, and the deterioration of public security is becoming more serious.
According to media reports, juvenile delinquency is reported to be worse, such as an increase in neet or “not in education, employment or training”, children who get angry quickly and easily, a child kills a child, and a child kills a parent. The current situation in Japan is like the end of the world.
Then, how can we save Japan from such situations? To save Japan, it is necessary to try to recover the Japanese spirits. If the spirits are restored, civilization, society, and our nation will be revived.

How did Europe change from a stubborn medieval Christian society to modern times? Classical studies of ancient Greece and Rome first led to a renaissance. After that, rationalism,
criticizing the Christian worldview, the deepening of natural science recognition based on experimentation and observation, and the enterprising attitude toward new technology led to modern Europe.
The same is true for Japan. Why was it possible to appear on the big stage of world history from the isolation of the Edo period? This is because the reconstruction movement of the Japanese spirits took place before the Meiji Restoration. Kokugaku scholars Kamo no Mabuchi and Motoori Norinaga began to study classics such as “Kojiki” and “Manyoshu”, which had not been looked after until then and began to appeal to the importance of the Japanese spirits. This movement became the driving force to the Meiji Restoration
Recently, the Thatcher administration has regained its vitality in Britain by carrying out mental reforms centered on educational reforms in Britain, which was suffering from British disease.
What I want to emphasize is that Japan will be revived once the Japanese spirits are restored.
What should politics do for that? I think the following is necessary.

1. Amendment of the Constitution of Japan
The current constitution was written by the Allied Forces General Headquarters (GHQ) in a short period of only one week when Japan was occupied, and imposed on Japan. Amending this constitution and making it by the Japanese themselves will lead to the revival of the Japanese spirits. In addition, the future can be opened up only by the creative spirit of the Japanese people to create a constitution suitable for the new era in the 21st century.
2, Revision of the Fundamental Law of Education
Like the Constitution, the Fundamental Law of Education was created during the occupation. Formally, it was approved by the Japanese Parliament, but it was actually under the direction and influence of the GHQ. The law was originally thought to be used together with " the Imperial Rescript on Education," but later a resolution to eliminate the Imperial Rescript on Education was passed by the Diet by order of the GHQ. Therefore, the content of the Fundamental Law of Education is common today, such as equal opportunity in education, 9 years of compulsory education, coeducation, etc. but it is not mentioned the importance of Japanese history, tradition, family, community ties, patriotism, and religious sentiment. Some people say that changing the Fundamental Law of Education does not change anything in the field of education, but the important point is that, like the constitutional amendment, legislation by the Japanese people will lead to the reconstruction of the Japanese spirits.
3. Correcting biased history textbooks
History education is one of the most important basics of any country that supports a nation. When children learn that their ancestors lived hard in each era and feel that they are connected to their ancestors will become aware of themselves as Japanese citizens and have patriotism. Today's history textbooks are not described that way. Therefore, it is necessary to aim at the appropriateness of textbook certification and adoption to stop the use of biased history textbooks.
When the Japanese spirits are restored, or in the process of efforts for reconstruction and the fight against oppositions, the courage, power, and belief to solve Professor Nakanishi's worries in his book will grow from the Japanese people. The values of the people will change, and Japan will enter a new era. Great politicians think of Japan 100 years from now. I want to not only solve the current problems but also fundamentally change Japan through a spiritual revolution and make Japan a wonderful country.
