I think that English should be taught in Japanese primary schools.
English is one of the most important languages. People need to learn English to get the newest knowledge, information, and ideas. Learning English widens your world. We can also enjoy reading books, watching movies and TV programs, and listening to music in English when we learn the language.
Many Japanese parents are afraid that their children cannot do their jobs well because of children’s poor ability of English, so they want their children to learn English in primary schools and master the language.
According to the research, students who start learning English in primary schools can study English more easily than those who begin learning English in high schools.
Therefore, the Japanese government has decided that every student in Japan should learn English in primary schools.
Some people may be worried about the bad aspects of learning English at an early age, for example, the loss of Japanese language proficiency, the bad effects on other subjects, and pressure on students.
I don’t worry about these problems at all, because students learn English for an hour a week in municipal schools. Such short-time lessons don’t give a harmful influence on their learning the Japanese language and other subjects. On the other hand, children can have the chance to be familiar with English.
Thus, I am for students learning English in primary schools.
